๐Ÿ“ฆ How to Print Your Shipping Labels in Ship.com

This article explains how to set up printers, print shipping labels, fix common printing issues (like tiny labels), and troubleshoot problems โ€” all in one place.

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Supported Printer Types

You can print shipping labels using two main types of printers:

๐Ÿ”น 1. Thermal Label Printers (Best for Shipping Labels)

  • Prints directly on 4" ร— 6" thermal label rolls
  • No ink or toner needed
  • Faster printing
  • Ideal for high-volume shipping

Common models: DYMO 4XL, Zebra ZD420, Rollo, etc.

Thermal printers are preferred because carriers like USPS and UPS expect shipping labels to be 4ร—6 and compatible with scanners.

๐Ÿ”น 2. Inkjet or Laser Desktop Printers

  • Prints on standard letter paper (8.5" ร— 11")
  • Labels can be pre-printed in two 4ร—6 labels per page or full-page sheets with label templates
  • Requires ink/toner

๐Ÿ“ฅ Choosing the Correct Printer Type in Ship.com

Before buying a label, make sure Ship.com knows what type of printer youโ€™re using:

  1. Go to the Purchase Shipping Label screen.
  2. At the top, open the printer dropdown.
  3. Choose one of these:
    • Normal โ€“ Half Page (for regular printers)
    • Thermal โ€“ Wide (for 4ร—6 thermal printers)
    • Thermal โ€“ Skinny (for narrow thermal formats)

This tells Ship.com how to format your label correctly.

๐ŸŒ€ Once You Buy a Label

  • The label shows up on your screen.
  • Itโ€™s also saved in the orderโ€™s menu.
  • You can print it immediately or re-print later.

๐Ÿ”„ How to Re-Print a Label

  1. Find the order in your orders list.
  2. Click the three-dot menu on the right.
  3. Select Re-print Shipping Label.

Re-printing does not charge you again โ€” youโ€™re only charged when the label is first purchased.

  • Go to the Print button (below your Shipping Balance).
  • Choose USPS Scan Form / Manifest.
  • This consolidates labels for USPS scanning.

๐Ÿ“ƒ Packing Slips

  • From any order, click the three-dot menu.
  • Select Print Packing Slip.

โ— Why Labels Sometimes Print Super Small

If your shipping label prints tiny (barcode and text small and unreadable), itโ€™s almost always a paper size setting issue in your printer dialog.

๐Ÿ“Œ Fix for Thermal Printers

Make sure the paper size is exactly 4" ร— 6".

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ For DYMO 4XL

  1. In the print preview window (before printing), find the Paper Size setting.
  2. Choose: 1744907 4 in x 6 in

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ For DYMO Twin Turbo

  1. In the print preview, set Paper Size to: 30256 Shipping

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ For Zebra or Other Thermal Printers

  1. In print preview, choose 4" ร— 6" label or 100mm ร— 150mm (same size).
  2. Confirm orientation is Portrait.
  3. Set Scale to 100% / Actual Size (not โ€œFit to Pageโ€).

๐Ÿ“Œ Always choose the correct paper size before hitting Print โ€” this is the most common fix.

๐Ÿง  Thermal Printer Best Practices

โœ” Update your printerโ€™s drivers from the manufacturer website.
โœ” Use good quality thermal labels โ€” old/damaged rolls may affect print.
โœ” Always set the correct label size each time you print.

๐Ÿ“Œ Quick Tips for Success

โœ” Always select the correct label size before printing.
โœ” Re-print from the orderโ€™s menu if a label fails to print.
โœ” Use batch printing for multiple labels.
โœ” Use scan forms for USPS shipments with many labels.
